MOBILE PHONE RIP-OFFS
If you have purchased a new phone on a fixed term contact for say 2 years, you will appreciate that the phone is subsidised over the fixed term so that you don’t have to pay a huge up front fee.
PAYING FOR THE PHONE YOU OWN!
When the term ends, what should happen (if all is equal and fair) is that the costs of your phone should be removed from the monthly fee so you only pay for the call and data charges according to the plan you are on if you made no changes.
Thus for argument sake, if you were paying £40 per month, and the phone subsidy was £25 per month, you should really be paying only £15 per month. If you did not change anything after the initial fixed term with your phone provider, your paying £25 pm for the phone that you own! Not good, right?
You could be paying after the initial fixed term over £40 per month if you purchased an iPhone 6 (over a year that is £400).
